Kurt Angle understood pro-wrestling to a rare degree. It's hard to think of anything he was actually poor at. He could be the obnoxious heel and the inspiring face, stand out in comedy segments and in heated face-to-face promos.

Inside the squared circle, he made a joke of any challenge thrown his way. No circumstance could hinder his show-stealer abilities. Whether he was asked to have fast-paced ten-minute openers with Rey Mysterio or spotfest Iron Man main events with Brock Lesnar, technical masterclasses with Chris Benoit, gruesome Street Fights with Shane McMahon or dramatic WWE-style belters with Steve Austin, Angle got the job done. Singles matches, tag team matches, gimmick matches: his catalogue is as full of fantastic bouts as Gordon Ramsay's swear jar is full of coins.

He was also one of the pillars of TNA for a decade or so. If the company was perceived as potential competition for WWE during a brief spell from 2008 to 2010, it had a lot to do with Angle and his brilliant work against Samoa Joe or AJ Styles. Kurt Angle hanged the boots in 2019, having fittingly wrestled his very last match against AJ Styles on SmackDown. If anything came afterwards, I must've missed it.
