Wrestling’s 10 Biggest Missed Opportunities Of 2023
2. NOT Finishing The Story
As WWE continues to tease what could be a monumental rematch between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, and the chance to finally finish the damn story at WrestleMania 40, it's important to never forget how perfect an opportunity they had to create an instantly iconic moment earlier this year.
But because Triple H and the gang believe a top babyface must struggle to the point of ending their biggest show of the year on a heartbreaking low before finally winning the big one, Cody was forced to live an American nightmare.
Not a single thing that has happened post-'Mania 39 has justified that decision. It's as simple as that.
The Bloodline Saga would have been just as engrossing if Roman was simply trying to keep control of his family and hold of the title of 'Tribal Chief'. And that would still set up an eventual Dwayne duel quite nicely, too.
Also, Cody's epic fights with Brock Lesnar, with a few result tweaks, would have been even more compelling.
Instead, the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship has spent the majority of the year in Reigns' living room, Rhodes has been frustratingly treading water for significant periods on Raw, and what could have been an all-timer of a WrestleMania will forever be remembered as the most bittersweet.
