4. The McMahons Defeat Steve Austin At King Of The Ring (June 27, 1999)
Aligned with his son again, Vince teamed with Shane McMahon to face Steve Austin in a Ladder Match at the King Of The Ring show. The main crux of the match revolved around grabbing the rights to the WWF that were hanging above the ring. During the bout, Austin repeatedly looked on in confusion as the rope shortened and kept rising every time he went to win. Whenever one of the McMahon family went to grab it, it lowered. This was never explained at any point during the storyline afterwards, and fans never found out who was up in the rafters literally pulling strings.
