6. Stone Cold & Shawn Michaels vs Owen Hart & British Bulldog - Raw, May 26th, 1997
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwO_mDSscJ8 Lost in the sea of awesomeness that was the entire Stone Cold/Hart Foundation feud of 1997, this forgotten RAW classic lands us slap bang in the middle of one of the best times to be a wrestling fan. Shawn had just returned following a four month absence after his knee gave out due to the shock of being asked to job to Bret Hart. The story here is that although Stone Cold and Michaels don't get along, they hate Bret even more. Thus began the first of Russo's patented 'tag champs who need to work together but fight outside the ring' bit. It was quite entertaining at the time, but lost its value after it was used throughout the decade. Still, the audience don't know this yet so seem quite content with everything. Which they would, being from the past. In the ring things move as smoothly as you'd expect from three of the greatest of all time, not to mention a surprisingly motivated British Bulldog. The match manages to feel chaotic without ever going full clusterfuck. Best of all is the post match angle. After winning the titles The Hart Foundation jump Shawn, at which point Stone Cold decides that's not really his problem and beelines for Bret instead, who'd been stood watching the match like a dastardly Canadian general. The whole thing feels like a perfect moment in time: D Generation X, Montreal and the era of Stone Cold were just around the corner. The wrestling world would never be the same.
