WWE: 10 Best Ladder Matches Ever

5. The Hardy Boyz vs. Edge and Christian - No Mercy 1999

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7mpn0_wwe-extras-no-mercy-1999-hardy-boys_sport Matt and Jeff Hardy, Edge and Christian had spent the summer of 1999 showing flashes of brilliance as they squared off against each other in what felt like a never-ending feud. The Hardys had replaced Edge and Christian in the Brood, adding a more personal element to the program. When Terri Runnels offered her managerial services, among others, to the winners of a series of matches between the two teams known as the Terri Invitational Tournament, it gave them another reason to continue competing against one another. The final match of that tournament came at the October 1999 No Mercy pay-per-view and would be the first-ever tag team Ladder match. It would give the four performers the opportunity to revolutionize a match concept in the same way that their idols Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon did five years earlier. More importantly, it offered them the chance to prove that they were ready to take the next step up the ladder (pun most definitely intended). They seized the opportunity, throwing caution to the wind and delivering spots that were unlike any fans had ever seen before. The young stars stole the show out from underneath stars such as Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H and Mankind and made a lasting impression that led to increased exposure on Raw and SmackDown. Their match elevated them to the top of tag team wrestling in North America and rejuvenated the art form in the country. The Hardy Boyz won the match but all four Superstars received a standing ovation from the audience in Cleveland. The following night, they were greeted with the same response from the fans in State College, Pennsylvania. And deservedly so.
