WWE: 10 Big Stars In Worthless WrestleMania Matches
7. The Ultimate Warrior vs. Triple H - WrestleMania 12
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzzmvDuswHc No, this isn't a worthless match from the side of Triple H, because at WrestleMania XII he was basically a lower midcard heel. It was pretty good exposure for him at the time. This match was worthless from the standpoint of the Ultimate Warrior. In 1996, the WWF was quickly losing ground in the war to WCW. Many of the Federation's biggest names had already jumped ship: Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage and Bobby Heenan to name a few. The company got desperate, and brought Warrior back into the fold. You would think that the company had big plans for Warrior, as by all accounts, he does not come cheap. Having him face Triple H at the biggest show of the year was a bit confusing. If they wanted him to compete in a squash match there were plenty of other chances to do that. Surely some sort of feud with a well-known name could have been built up for him at WrestleMania. After a three and a half year hiatus from the WWF, you have to imagine that there were some fans who ordered Mania just to see him again. While Warrior is not exactly a skilled in-ring technician, he has been in some classic Mania matches against Hogan and Savage. But that night fans were treated to a 90 second squash, in which Warrior no-sold Triple H's Pedigree and then quickly finished him off with a splash. It's a night that Hunter probably wants to forget, and a match that most fans probably don't even remember.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
