Punk and Bryan have some real history going back to their ROH days. They're both from the same generation and worked their way up through the indy circuit in tandem, at one point they were simultaneously holding both of WWE's world championships, but the trigger was never properly pulled. Bryan and Punk's feud could have been handled so much more effectively, Bryan's talent at this point wasn't being correctly utilized and he was nothing more than a cowardly heel who Punk easily disposed of. Why wasn't it turned into an epic tale of their past? A story of two indy guys who weren't supposed to make it but did writes itself. With Bryan peaking in popularity recently and becoming one of the four top guys in the company, they should have struck while the iron was hot and got Punk in the mix, they tagged together briefly but the fans were begging for a match between the two. It may be catering to the internet fans, but it's hard to deny that given how over both of these guys are as performers at this level, they would put on an epic. The future now looks pretty bleak for that dream match.
