It wasn't until Punk's tremendous heel run in 2008 and his story with the Straight Edge Society from 2009-2011 when we saw how impeccable he was on the microphone. His worked shoot in the Summer of 2011 only solidified his status as the company's top mic guy, but why didn't they do this from the very beginning? Everyone knew that Punk's strongest asset was his way with words, just watch some old ROH promos and you'll see what I mean, the man knew how to elicit a response from the crowd just from opening his mouth at a very young age. For two whole years Punk's only identity in the company was that he was straight edge, that was literally all he had going for him, why wasn't he established straight away as a master promo cutter and a thorn in the side of authority? He didn't suddenly just get good on the mic, his most vital asset was ignored for far too long. Had they gotten his vocational skills over as soon as he debuted on the ECW brand, he could potentially have been an even bigger star than the one he became.
