WWE: 10 Biggest Missed Opportunities In WrestleMania History
8. Edge's Last Match At WrestleMania 27
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCX92s4VU0Q This missed opportunity has nothing to do with the booking team. Nobody knew just how bad Edge's physical health was when an MRI forced him to retire just a week after his successful world title defense against Alberto Del Rio. It turned out to be his last match, and while not a bad final outing by any means, it felt unfitting as a final goodbye to one of the best all-rounders of the last 15 years. Part of the problem was the match was only allotted 11 minutes. Watching it again, I really believe they could have created something special with just a little longer. Considering this was on a card with a 10 plus minute comedy match between Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler, finding the time wouldn't exactly be a head scratcher. Given a decent time slot and a respectable place on the card, this could have catapulted Del Rio forward as a take no prisoners, vicious champion: the kind we saw for a brief shining moment in his fued with Dolph Ziggler. Instead a lack of direction has left Del Rio as one of the most uninteresting champions in recent history. Going into this match vowing to take Edge's career, and succeeding, would give him the edge (no pun intended) he needed. Alternatively, Edge could have used his last match to put over his best friend, the eternally underrated Christian. As a s**tbag heel, Christian has always been an absolute riot and knowing the history between the two, an emotionally charged encounter could have stolen the show at an otherwise lackluster Wrestlemania.
