9. A Champion Should Enter And Win
In looking to do something fresh with the Rumble concept, why not have the WWE Champion actually enter? It would create an intriguing new dynamic, the champion now has his destiny in his own hands. It is a storytelling opportunity that WWE have missed. It would allow them to do something entirely different in the Mania season. For example, if Randy Orton was to enter the 2014 Rumble as Champion and win, what happens then? It poses questions and makes people tune into Raw the next night. It would create a compelling reason to buy the Elimination Chamber pay per view where WWE would resolve the situation. It would further enforce Orton as the dictator over the WWE. Tradition is good but progress is better, an unconventional Rumble winner sparks interest. A Rumble should always have one big surprise ... what would be more surprising than the actual Champion taking away the prize? This would have been a much better angle to run than the mediocre years that spawned the likes of Sheamus and Del Rio winning title shots.
