WWE: 10 Biggest Royal Rumble Missed Opportunities In History

10. Kurt Angle Should Have Won In 2002

KurtAngle Kurt Angle is arguably the greatest WWE Champion to have never won the Royal Rumble. He deserves to have won at least one of the prestigious events, and it should have been the 2002 show. That year was the time period that Kurt emerged as the best wrestler in the world. Austin had finished his main event run in 2001 and it was time to christen a new star, Angle should have been booked as the next American Hero; he should have won the Rumble and went on to beat Chris Jericho for the Undisputed title at Wrestlemania X8. That would have been a fitting start to the Angle era. A Jericho vs Angle match would have delivered brilliantly in technical action. Instead Triple H returned from injury to win the '02 Rumble, last eliminating Angle. Hunter was not fully fit and he went on to contest a dull main event with Jericho at Mania. It was a shame. Kurt's first Mania main event would end up being in 2003, and it wasn't his moment, it was Brock Lesnar's moment. Angle closed Mania 19 to drop the WWE title to Lesnar. It was a shame WWE didn't do that same honour for Kurt the previous year, it would have been wildly entertaining to see Angle in the Rumble winner role.
