WWE: 10 Candidates To Be The New Raw General Manager
After 10 months of service, Brad Maddox was fired from his post as Raw General Manager by The Authority on the May 26 edition of Raw. This stemmed from Maddox allowing Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns to act as special guest commentators for Seth Rollins' match against Batista without permission from Triple H the week prior. Maddox was called out to the ring on Monday night, was ambushed by the "demon" Kane, and then subsequently received his pink slip from the boss. This probably wasn't a way Maddox thought he'd be spending his Memorial Day. Nevertheless, the position of general manager dates all the way back to 2002 when the Brand Extension was first put into effect. Eric Bischoff was brought in to act as the GM of Raw, and Stephanie McMahon was named the GM of SmackDown days later. In the early years of the Brand Extension, the GMs were pivotal in signing talent to their brand, making matches, maintaining orders and other duties. However, as time passed on and the McMahons became on-air personalities on a regular basis and the Brand Extension died out, General Managers essentially lost all power and meaning. Thus, it came as no surprise when Maddox was let go as the GM of Raw this past week due to the fact he hardly ever made any appearances on the show. It's been established that The Authority has the power to overrule any decision made by a GM, so while a GM could be considered pointless this day and age, it can still be saved. Some fans were unaware Maddox was even still employed by the end of his run, but appointing someone with a bit more notability and notoriety could prevent the role of GM from becoming irrelevant.
