WWE: 10 Candidates To Be The New Raw General Manager

10. William Regal

In August 2007, Vince McMahon announced an over-the-top-rope Battle Royal to crown a new general manager of Raw. It came down to The Sandman, Carlito and Shelton Benjamin, and when the ECW Original outlasted the two former Intercontinental champions to seemingly win the match and the prized position, in came an opportunistic William Regal, who had spent a majority of the match at ringside. Regal knocked Sandman out with his boot, threw him over the top rope and the reign of Regal was officially upon us. The first few months of Regal's tenure as Raw General Manager started out a bit rocky, including an attack from John Cena that sidelined from an active duty for a month. However, things got interesting when Regal shockingly emerged victorious in the 2008 King of the Ring tournament, proclaiming himself the "single most powerful entity in the entire WWE." From turning off the lights during matches and taking the broadcast off the air unexpectedly, Regal did everything in his power to make himself the most hated man in all of wrestling. Many fans speculated that Regal was well on his way to becoming the first English-born WWE champion in history... that was, however, until he was suspended for 60 days for violating the Wellness Policy before he could ever get the chance to contend for the title. On the May 19 Raw, Regal's reign as GM of Raw came to an end following a loss to Mr. Kennedy in a "Loser Gets Fired" match. Regal has since retired from active in-ring competition, briefly serving as the GM of NXT in 2012 before the program was revamped as WWE's developmental territory. He now regularly does commentary for NXT and as great as he is at it, there's still no denying how amazing of an authority figure he was in 2008. He even threw his name into the hat to become the Raw GM again when the spot was vacated in the summer of 2012. Don't think for a second that he wouldn't consider himself a candidate for the position once again now that it has opened up.
