WWE: 10 Failed Attempts At Re-Creating WrestleMania Magic

5. Chris Benoit vs. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels (Backlash 2004)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CngQfjlUHqY Before the Benoit incident back in 2007, the ending to WrestleMania 20 was considered by many to be one of the best endings to a WrestleMania in history. Chris Benoit, a man who for years was constantly looked over as a "vanilla midget" who would never reach the next level to main event status, had finally achieved the dream of becoming a World Champion. Alongside his best friend, the WWE Champion Eddie Guerrero, the two embraced and celebrated as confetti fell from the rafters. The two wrestlers raised each others arms in victory, and it was a great night to be a professional wrestling fan. It's a highlight that will unfortunately never be mentioned or shown in future WWE broadcasts. All we have are the memories and repeat viewings of that great moment forever frozen in time. A month later, a rematch between the three would take place. While the match itself was great, Benoit had already become the champion. Granted, he still needed to prove he could defend it, but there was no way that the match was ever going to repeat the feeling that the fans got when Triple H tapped out and Benoit was finally declared the World Champion. It was a match that had to happen for the sake of storyline, but it's a shame that the match had to occur so quickly after such the amazing moment that was WrestleMania 20.
