WWE: 10 Famous Wrestling Streaks That Had A Botched Ending

6. The Brain Busters End Demolition's 478-Day Tag Team Title Reign

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKgHLQ2VKDA When Ax and Smash defeated Tito Santana and Rick Martel (Strike Force) at WrestleMania IV for the WWF Tag Team Champions, few could have guessed just how successful the tandem would be. But after defeating The British Bulldogs and the Hart Foundation, and turning face at Survivor Series 1988, Demolition defeated The Powers of Pain at WrestleMania V, continuing their title reign and path of destruction and holding the titles for 478 days, surpassing the record previously held by The Valiant Brothers. But the reign could have been at least 140 days longer than that; instead, there was a 76-day reign by Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard in the middle. Taking nothing away from Arn and Tully- known in WWF as The Brain Busters- and their abilities; they were NWA Tag Team Champions, highly-skilled technical wrestlers, and played the role of cunning heels willing to do anything to win perfectly. Unfortunately, their run in WWF was not long; after winning the title from Demolition on Saturday Night's Main Event in July of 1989, The Busters defeated the Hart Foundation (in a non-title match) at SummerSlam '89, but didn't do much else, eventually dropping the titles back to Demolition on WWF Superstars in October to start a new 72-day reign by Ax and Smash. At Survivor Series in November of that year, Tully failed a drug test before the show, and Arn left right after. Their manager, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, would lead a new team of Haku and Andre the Giant- The Colossal Connection- to a title victory over Demolition in December. If Ax and Smash had not dropped the titles to a team that would be leaving within three months, a 626-day title reign would not have been out of the question.
