9. Entered The Industry As A Roided Up Bodybuilder
By his own admission, Sting came to pro wrestling as a bodybuilder who cared only about muscle bulk. In an interview with Muscle and Fitness magazine, Borden states - "I trained for size. That's all I was training for. My knees are arthritic now. I don't have a whole lot of flexibility left. Thankfully, I got smart somehow or another in 1990 and stopped taking steroids totally stopped." Steroids of course are one of the most controversial subjects in pro wrestling. The fact that Borden abused them for the first five years of his career might surprise some fans who looked up to Sting as one of most clean cut pro wrestlers of all time. Then again, the wrestling industry and steroids went hand in hand in the late 80's. Sting broke in with his tag team partner The Ultimate Warrior, both men quickly discovering that look mattered way more than ability. It was Sting's passion for bodybuilding which had got him hired in the first place. A group of pro wrestlers had spotted Borden working out in a gym, and recruited him based on how ripped he was. What a happy coincidence that Sting actually proved to be an astute pro wrestler in addition to his first vocation in bodybuilding.
