WWE: 10 Fascinating Backstage Facts About Sting

7. Born Again Christian

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhZbjpZQ4S8 Having kicked the drug abuse, Borden became a very passionate Christian. Long before the more famous pro wrestler born again redemption of Shawn Michaels, Sting fully embraced God and set about being a missionary for the church in 1998. Part of the reason he didn't sign with Vince McMahon in 2001 was down to his faith, Borden preferring to spend time with God and preach his story throughout the church scene. The WWF of the Attitude Era was hardly the most godly place. "Nothing was going to fix me, and I didn't want to live the rest of my life like that," Borden told the Gospel Herald. He put the booze down and instead called out to God. Just like that, overnight, the change happened, according to the Gospel Herald. However, in another christian interview, Borden states the change took much longer. He first called out to God in 1996, but it would be two years more before he finally fully surrenderd his life to Christianity. "I wanted God to wave a magic wand and make everything better, but my life just continued on the way it was and things got worse and worse," Borden states. It wasn't until August 1998 when he broke down to his wife and fully confessed his problems that he truly noticed an overnight change. The Icon had been born again.
