WWE: 10 Fascinating Backstage Facts About Sting

6. One Of The Most Respected In Ring Talents Ever

Despite Sting's turmoil filled personal life, his professional career was soaring. Dave Meltzer's coveted 5 star match award (rarely seen in North America) was achieved by two Sting led efforts in 1991 and 1992. The matches in question were Wargames classics, and Sting also won the Observer award for best babyface in the industry for 1992. The plaudits haven't really stopped since, with Borden enjoying a lofty reputation as a strong in-ring worker ever since the early 90's. While Hogan and the N.W.O were drawing big criticism for their WCW matches, Sting remained a firmly rated wrestler of the Atlanta group. Without him on board, the loyal southern wrestling fans may have abandoned ship far sooner than 2001. So, where does Sting stand in the pantheon of all time greats? You could make a strong case for him being in the top ten of modern wrestling, right up there with Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker and Steve Austin. Much like those stars who defined a brand and carried a company, Sting did that for so many years in WCW. He had such brilliant matches along the way and built a reputation without ever appearing in the colossus of the WWE. Considering those factors, you have to agree with the assertion that Sting is one of the best workers from North America in the past three decades.
