5. Technically One World Title Away From Ric Flair's Record
One of Sting's very best friends in the wrestling business has been Ric Flair. The two men have shared a strong affinity for each other, built up through three decades of working together in the ring. As a result of so many superb matches, the respect has built and built. What has also developed has been a plethora of world championship wins. Flair holds the record for most world tile wins ever, with a gold filled haul of 16 championships. What few people know is that Sting is just one title behind on 15 championships. However, the Icon's claim to be a 15 time champion is slightly more contentious than Flair's haul. For one thing, one of those title reigns was the WWA world championship. Never heard of it? Exactly. The company barely lasted two years despite a star filled roster and global touring dates. Then there are the four TNA world title reigns, again, these are perhaps redundant in the eyes of the WWE history books. Nevertheless, with ten world championships across his glory days in the NWA and WCW, Sting is in the elite level of historic champions. There's just one major piece of gold missing from his trophy cabinet, and you have to wonder if he will indeed get a WWE title shot during his upcoming run in the big leagues.
