WWE: 10 Great Wrestlers Held Back By Terrible Gimmicks

1. Eugene

Believe it or not, there was a very proven wrestler behind the Eugene gimmick. Nick Dinsmore was very well respected amongst the underground circuit and was getting over on Ohio Valley Wrestling, both in a tag team and as a singles competitor. He was a great grappler with bags of potential, which was finally discovered by the WWE in 2004. Now to be fair to Dinsmore, as a hungry wrestler it€™s probably hard to reject any gimmick put in front of you by the WWE. I€™m sure the two guys who had a tag team run on SmackDown as €˜The Dicks€™ weren€™t exactly fist pumping at their new ring names. But being informed that you would be playing the role of Eric Bischoff€™s mentally challenged nephew must be more difficult to wrap your head around than most other gimmicks. Eugene€™s entire run in the WWE basically consisted of the babyface wrestlers looking out for him and the heel characters trying to take advantage of him. In one particular backstage segment, Vince and Shane McMahon offer a present to the bemused Eugene, before pouring green paint over his body and dunking his head down the toilet. Thankfully, the WWE created the €˜be a STAR€™ anti-bullying campaign many years later and all was forgiven.
