5. Chris Benoit
Before I write about Chris Benoit, let me state that my focus is on the man as a performer and writing this does not condone the double murder suicide he committed in 2007. When it comes to in-ring performers, Chris Benoit is one of the best there has ever been. The Edmonton, Alberta product trained in the Hart Dungeon in Calgary. He also wrestled all over the world with stops in Japan and Mexico before finding his away on American soil in ECW. He spent several years in WCW in the late 1990s before jumping to WWE in 2000 for the last seven years of his life. Benoit was known as a technical wrestler who could have a great match with just about anybody. His best opponent was Kurt Angle, in my opinion. Theiir classic at the Royal Rumble in 2003 is one of the best pure matches in WWE history. He was also a part of some classic tag matches with Angle (against Mysterio & Edge at No Mercy 2002) and with Jericho (against Austin & Triple H on Raw in 2001), which showed that he could have awesome matches with just about anybody in any situation. Even though he wasn't really known as a good talker and he was shorter than most, he did receive a main event push in 2004 when he won the World Title at WrestleMania 20. He won nearly every title possible in both WWE and WCW, so there's no denying that he accomplished a lot in his career. Unfortunately, his last days will overshadow everything he did in the ring.
