http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fe0xdi8gkY When: No Way Out 2000 Where: Hartford, Connecticut Following their street fight at the Royal Rumble in Madison Square Garden, one of the finest and most brutal matches in history, there was a lot to live up to. So how do you go about trying to replicate greatness? Well, for Mick Foley, it was to follow the blueprint of his famous encounter with the Undertaker. Triple H & Foley first came to blows in 1997, as Triple H (then Hunter Hearst Helmsley) beat Mankind in the King of the Ring final. The feud would last several months, including the first-rate "three faces of Foley" promo where Cactus Jack debut in the company. By the time Triple H won the title at the start of 2000, the McMahon-Helmsley regime was working to humiliate and eliminate all competition, Mick Foley included - even being momentarily fired. But after a threatened walk off from the roster instigated by The Rock, Foley was re-hired and awarded a title match. Despite losing valiantly in the street fight, Foley would again get a title shot - this time in the unforgiving steel cell and on the condition Foley's career was on the line. It would be the first cell match where the title would be defended. Pulling out all the stops again, the wild brawl that followed would top even Foley's legendary match with Undertaker. Chairs and steel steps would be tossed around like toys, planted into skulls and faces would be painted crimson masks all over again. Foley had expressed his desire to fly off the top of the cell again and an ingenious spot saw the steps used to accidentally pry open a panel on the cell - Foley could finally work his way to the outside of the structure. The pair fought around the ringside area, until Foley found his holy grail: a 2x4 wrapped in barbed wire. Naturally, the Game ran a mile to his only safe haven: the top of the cell. Foley made the mistake of lowering his guard as he pursued, and Triple H took full advantage to send him straight back down through the Spanish announce table. As Triple H sought for respite up there, Foley countered with his 2x4..which he then set aflame and clocked Triple H's skull in front of the awestruck crowd. Just as he prepared to piledrive the Cerebral Assassin on the top of the cell, he was backdropped through the mesh and into the hard canvas below. His broken soul could not take much more and he ultimately succumbed to a Pedigree. Cactus Jack's (even if it proved not to be Foley's) farewell was passionate, poignant and most definitely painful.
