WWE: 10 Greatest Hell in a Cell Matches

1. Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwyGsdPPhs0 When: Badd Blood: In Your House 1997 Where: St. Louis, Missouri You were expecting the Big Boss Man match, perhaps? The greatest Hell in a Cell match of all time is also the first Hell in a Cell match and what numerous people regard as the greatest match in wrestling history. Simply put: perfection has never been so ugly. At SummerSlam, Michaels played guest referee and inadvertently cost Undertaker the WWF Championship as he swung for long-time rival Bret Hart with a chair but caught the Deadman. Michaels claimed his innocence, but he would again strike Taker between the eyes with a chair in a tag match on Raw. In weeks to come, Michaels would continue to infuriate the Undertaker with hit-and-run tactics. This led to their first ever one-on-one contest at Ground Zero where Michaels would again play the coward to avoid confrontation at all costs before attacks on several officials ruled it a no contest. Nobody knew what to expect from the devil's playground. With the benefit of originality, they managed to tear the house down with both men on their absolute A-game with psychology, characterisation and storytelling off the charts. The Undertaker wanted nothing more than retribution against the cocky co-founder of DX, while Michaels used every trick in his playbook to survive; knowing he could not depend on assistance from his allies. Everything but the heart of the Heartbreak Kid was ostensibly broken, as he crashed through an announce table, hurled head first into the grating steel wall and received one of the most thunderous chair shots in history; echoing through time while on-lookers winced in agony. Blow after blow his body was shattered. There was innovation, drama and family affairs. Yes, this was the debut of the Undertaker's brother, Kane. As far as outstanding introductions to the wrestling world go, this is above and beyond anything else. Walking with purpose alongside father Paul Bearer, Kane literally ripped the door off the cell before confronting his visually worried Undertaker. Picking his half-brother up, Kane demonstrated his awesome power to the crowd before dropping the Phenom with his own patented Tombstone Piledriver. Wrestling would never be the same again. And if you don't believe me, look at the title match Shawn Michaels received for winning this duel.
