WWE: 10 Greatest Moments Of Austin Vs McMahon Feud
4. Their First "Match"
In April of 1998, we were on the verge of getting something very historic on an episode of Raw. Austin challenged Vince to a match, and Vince accepted. This was going to be their first match, a full ten months prior to St Valentine's Day Massacre, and was hyped as a huge deal, as the entire episode was built around it. During Austin's challenge, he said he could defeat McMahon with one arm tied behind his back, so Vince, being the opportunist that he is, demanded that Austin keep that "promise". Austin agreed and had an arm tied behind his back, which allowed Vince to take advantage with a slap across the face. Just as things were about to get physical, giving everyone what they had been waiting months to see, one of Mick Foley's alter egos, Dude Love, showed up and cancelled the match on his own before locking Austin in the Mandible Claw. It was a bait-and-switch of the highest caliber, but it kept people on the edges of their seats. Instead of being upset that they didn't get what they wanted, the WWF fans were even hungrier to see Austin get his hands on McMahon, and now to see him get his revenge on Dude Love, as well.
