9. The Return Of Piper's Pit In 2003 (McMahon and Rikishi)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=617vuv9goQI This episode of Piper's Pit marked the first in 20 years after Roddy Piper had returned out of the blue during Vince McMahon vs. Hogan at WrestleMania 19. It was a great two-part Piper's Pit with Roddy picking up where he left off as if he'd never missed a second of microphone time. McMahon brought Piper to the ring on this episode of Smackdown and announced himself as the special guest in another first for Piper's Pit. Roddy went straight to work, telling McMahon that nobody made Piper or Pipers Pit but Roddy himself. Vince retorted not by countering his claims but instead by making fun of his weight, saying the last time he saw someone that fat, Mae Young was 9 months pregnant. After further insulting the "Rowdy One" he insinuated that maybe he should join the Kiss My Ass club. Instead, Piper rubbed Vince's face in his past mistakes, citing such examples as the World Bodybuilding Federation and the XFL. In a particularly scathing quote, Piper told McMahon, "The only job you've been able to hold, is the one your daddy gave you...Junior" With things getting tense, it took a mutual hate for Hulk Hogan to bring them back around with Piper even alleging that Vince used to cut some of Piper's interviews aimed at the Hulkster in order to protect Hulk from being shown up by the superior talker. On that note, the two shook hands in a mutual hatred for Hogan prompting Vince to leave. Before he got too far however, Roddy gave him one more parting shot in telling him he did manage to do one thing Piper never did... get beaten by Hogan. After Vince left, Roddy was then surprised to be greeted by Rikishi's entrance music, and the big man strolled to the ring in a horrendous leather outfit. As Piper maintained that it wasn't a scheduled interruption, most noticed that Rikishi was carrying a coconut to the ring, making it obvious what his intentions were. Referencing the famous incident between Piper and Jimmy Snuka decades before, Rikishi said that it was the one moment he remembers more than anything over the years. Roddy tried to back pedal and insist that it was not between he and Rikishi, but the Kish disagreed in that Snuka was one of his family members and deserved to be avenged. As Rikishi spoke, he made the mistake of throwing the coconut in the air and Piper caught it. Before Rikishi could attack, he was assaulted from behind by Sean O'Haire who announced himself emphatically as Roddy's new bodyguard much like Bob Orton had done in the past. The segment ended with Rikishi receiving a coconut to the head much like his fellow islander had years before. This was a great return for Piper's Pit after a decade or so away from WWE TV. For all the years that Pipers Pit was on the air, Vince McMahon had never appeared on it, previously always acting as an announcer. McMahon being the first guest on the new Pit made a lot of sense not just because of the history between the two but also because of the changes the McMahon character had gone through over the years since. It would have been a solid enough Pit if it was just Vince but the Rikishi angle added even more to it. It was both a homage to the past and an establishment of a new story at the same time. O'Haire was launched as the new Piper protégé and would go on to defeat Rikishi at Backlash soon after. Unfortunately, Piper didn't stick around WWE long this time, leaving O'Haire in the limbo of relegation from Smackdown to Velocity before eventually being released a year later.
