WWE: 10 Most Memorable Piper's Pit Moments

5. Bruno Sammartino

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHlg-WIk01s Not long after the famous feud with Jimmy Snuka ended, Roddy Piper inserted himself firmly in the bad books of another huge fan favourite in the form of living legend Bruno Sammartino. Piper invited Bruno onto Piper's Pit in front of a huge crowd in one of Bruno's favourite arenas, Madison Square Garden and immediately set out to insult Bruno and started off by mocking his age and hair loss and asking where he came from. Bruno proudly represented Italy and had no problem giving Roddy as well as he got. He sassed Piper back by telling him that in Italy, no one wears skirts. This only served to fuel Roddy's fire and he started with the low blow insults, first insulting Bruno's disappointing wrestling son, David. Bruno reminded him that he wouldn't take any of his wise cracks and told him he could either interview him like a man, or get out of the ring. Piper agreed and the two sat down for an interview where Roddy asserted that if both men were in their prime, Piper would have been the better man. As expected, It wasn't long before it once again descended into Piper insulting and antagonizing Sammartino, taking aim at his cauliflower ear and squashed nose. Bruno let Piper know that he would have squashed him like a grape 15 years ago and he'd still squash him like a grape now. Piper took offence and made the mistake of insulting Sammartino one more time. As he stood to face off with Bruno, he called him a "stupid wop," a racial slur often aimed at people of Italian decent. Sammartino was incensed and responded by pushing Piper on his backside. As he attempted to leave the ring, Piper attacked from behind, driving a steel chair into Bruno's neck and back. He beat down Bruno as fans pelted the ring with garbage until Bruno managed to fight back. Roddy escaped before Bruno could do any real damage with the chair. They later had another controversial Piper's Pit at the Boston Garden where Piper insulted Bruno further after already having gotten into it with some fans who brought a sign reading "Roddy Piper Has Aids." Piper slapped Bruno across the face and called him a piece of crap, drawing an already fired up Sammartino into a brawl with Roddy and his manager Bob Orton. This led to a feud between the two where they faced off inside a Steel Cage match where Bruno managed to get the last laugh by winning.
