WWE: 10 Memories Of The Ultimate Warrior

10. A Macho Test

Ultimate Warrior was often given a lot of flak by hardcore fans throughout his career for not being a great worker. There's no doubt that he wasn't exactly a Ric Flair in the ring, but there are very few men on the planet who have had as many memorable matches as he did. One of those great outings was at WrestleMania VII when he took on "The Macho King" Randy Savage in a retirement match. Savage was his usual brilliant self in the match, but Warrior more than held up his end of the deal. The two had an emotional, hard hitting match, with the fans on the edge of their seats. In 1991, these two performers still seemed to be in the prime of their careers, so the thought of watching one for the final time (which obviously didn't end up being the case for the loser) was a hard reality to take in. At one point, we watched Macho Man deliver not one, not two, but five Flying Elbow Drops on The Warrior. That had to be it right? Not for the Ultimate One. The Warrior battled back, and landed three consecutive shoulder tackles on Savage that gave him the victory. It was a thrilling match that was easily the best on the show, and rivaled Warrior's showdown with Hogan the previous year as the best of his career. While the bout was a WrestleMania classic for the match itself, the reunion between Savage and Miss Elizabeth afterwards also made it one of the all time great Mania moments.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
