WWE: 10 Memories Of The Ultimate Warrior

9. Warrior Fears Taker

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKUXG6hTD1U As a kid, my two favorite wrestlers were The Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan. The two appeared to be unstoppable. Every heel who messed with them quickly learned to regret it. No one was their equal...until they came face to face with The Dead Man. This is where one of my earliest wrestling memories comes from, which happened on an episode of Saturday Night's Main Event in 1991. The show had a huge match-up of Sgt. Slaughter taking on Warrior. In those days, you could only see something like that on pay-per-view. I was pumped. Again, at the time, I thought wrestling was real. My six year old mind legitimately thought that Hulk Hogan, the WWF Champion, was the toughest man on the planet. Warrior was probably the second. Together, no one could stop them. At least so I thought. During Warrior's match with Slaughter, Paul Bearer began to roll a casket down to the ring. As Warrior looked ready to end things, Undertaker suddenly popped out of the casket and stared him down. What shocked me was that Warrior looked afraid. This also terrified me as I'd never seen him this way. If one of the bravest men on the planet was scared of The Undertaker, then everyone should be. Things broke down as Slaughter, Col. Mustafa and General Adnan all attacked Warrior with Taker's help. Hogan stormed the ring. I knew the day was about to be saved. But Hogan had no effect on Undertaker. He even hit him right in the face with the belt, and he didn't sell it for a second. Warrior then tried multiple clotheslines on Taker, which also had no effect. What was going on? I was absolutely terrified of this monster, and seeing one of my wrestling heroes fail to deal with him remains one of my most memorable wrestling moments.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
