9. The Earthquake Squashes Damien

He had sat on Hogan's chest on Brother Love's segment and apparently injured him very badly. This was at the height of Hulkamania and viewers were told Hogan's condition was dire and they had to write to Hogan and purchase friendship bracelets (which must have netted the company many sweet dollars). Jake 'The Snake' Roberts was flying high in his career at this time and a feud between him and Earthquake was initiated. The WWE was determined to make the feud last and make it big, so one terrible day Earthquake managed to tie Jake in the ring ropes and what happened next is truly terrible. Earthquake grabbed the bag which contained Jake's beloved python - Damien - and proceeded to do his trademark splash manoeuvre upon the bag which contained Damien. He sat on Damien several times as Jake watched on in horror. Damien was squashed and when Jake freed himself and looked in the bag, he was totally freaked out. As were the horrified viewers. I remember the gusto with which John Tenta squashed that snake and Jake's devastation. It was mean and cynical of the WWE to play out such scenarios as cruelty to animals. What makes the whole thing even more disgusting was an episode of Prime Time in which Tenta served up burgers to Bobby Heenan, Lord Alfred and McMahon - letting them have a good chow down before revealing they were snake burgers! This was a truly evil occurrence, grossed everyone out and was highly disrespectful of our reptile friends.
