WWE: 10 Real Controversies We Want The WWE Network To Cover

1. The Benoit Murders

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctLwoLR_Po4 The Chris Benoit incident is the single most dividing incident in WWE history. While there is no doubt in anyone's mind that the events of that fateful weekend in 2007 are horrendous, fans have since been split on whether or not WWE should acknowledge Benoit's existence at all. Until now, WWE's stance on the matter had been fairly obvious in that they wanted nothing to do with the man who murdered his wife and son before taking his own life. Even Benoit's massive win in the main event of WrestleMania 20 has been intentionally forgotten in the years since, being left off many retrospectives including the latest Shawn Michaels WrestleMania DVD. With the WWE Network however, they have confirmed that Benoit will indeed be featured albeit with a disclaimer before the show reminding people that WWE characters are fictional. Whatever your opinion on Benoit, it's an understandable decision from the WWE. Benoit was a massive part of ECW, WCW and WWE and removing every trace of him from the Network would not only be a massive undertaking but it would remove huge chunks of their history in the process. Additionally, any wrestlers who feuded with Benoit over the years would see loads of their matches just disappear particularly people like Jericho or Eddie Guerrero who feuded with him extensively. One thing they are highly unlikely to do though, is take anything more than a fleeting look at Chris Benoit's history. WWE have understandably never brought the incident up again since the episode of ECW where Vince McMahon came to the ring and apologized for airing a Benoit Tribute Show before knowing the true events of what had happened. Away from the strict umbrella of WWE however, the Benoit problem has been discussed by people close to the incident. In his second book, Chris Jericho spoke at length about his friendship with Benoit becoming distant over the years and his feelings on everything that happened. More recently, Jericho had Chavo Guerrero on his podcast, who was the closest person to Benoit at the time of the murders. Chavo spoke of the strange messages Benoit left on his phone and partially about the backstage reactions when the news broke. With big stars like Chavo and Jericho able to speak so honestly about such a controversial incident, there's no reason the WWE couldn't take a cue from their podcast and speak about such things in a respectful and truthful manner. Unfortunately WWE have all sorts of things that podcasts don't have to worry about such as major sponsors and various other investors to keep happy. Thus it is unlikely that they would take the risk and bring it up on their Network. No matter your opinions on the events though, it remains to this day the one incident where fans really want to know the truth of what happened that they will probably never get the closure they so desire.
