9. The Entrance Music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLtVoj9QlCY Lets make no bones about this, The Rock n Wrestling connection started with Hogan. The links to Rocky III could still be felt as Clubber Lang himself, Mr T, was now Hogans friend and partner (creating more mainstream media coverage). On their entrance to the ring at the very first WrestleMania, their theme tune was...The Eye of the Tiger. Boxers had long utilised music on their entrances and although it wasnt unheard of for wrestlers, when Survivor belted out at Madison Square Garden, the crowd went wild. Were not saying Hogan invented the entrance song but he did make it an exciting staple of any live event. The second you hear the song of a returning favourite, you cheer, same when an evil heel makes an appearance. Hogans had many themes over the years including, bizarrely, Voodoo Child during the Hollywood Hogan years (air guitar et al) but the one thats stuck is Real American. Composed by Rick Derringer (who also worked with Steely Dan) it is a great tune. Intensely patriotic, yes, but a great tune nonetheless. Simply put, if Hogan returns and this theme begins to play, the crowd will be louder than at any other time of the night.
