WWE: 10 Reasons The Montreal Screwjob Was The Biggest Work Ever

9. Bret And Vince Are Old School Kayfabe, Bret Did One Last Job For The Company He Loves Because He Felt Bad About Taking The WCW Money

bret hart Pro Wrestling is an essence a lie. The whole basis of the sport is to con the audience as best as possible. Both Bret and Vince grew up in an 'old school' world of wrestling which was almost mafia like in protecting the nature of the business. Sure, McMahon rolled back the curtain and promoted novelty acts in the 80's, but kayfabe was still important to Vince. Just look at McMahon's furious reaction to the 'kliq curtain call' when HHH, HBK, Razor Ramon and Diesel broke character. Triple H spent the next year in wrestling wilderness. Bret Hart is much the same as Vince. He grew up in his Father Stu Hart's wrestling business, and learned the industry just like Vinnie Mac did from Vince McMahon Snr. Fooling the audience and pride in angles is ingrained in Hart and McMahon's upbringing. Bret and Vince would surely have got off on building a wrestling angle as monumental as the 'screwjob', and to this day they still kayfabe it because it is in their very nature. The other guys involved, HBK, HHH, Earl Hebner and Gerry Brisco are also old school guys who got taught the importance of kayfabe. Bret's love of WWE and friendship with McMahon is evident throughout his book 'Hitman'. It is perfectly plausible that Bret did this one last favor to Vince because he felt bad about going to WCW, and the Two dreamed up the whole thing for a satisfying headline maker which they both thrive on.
