WWE: 10 Reasons Why "The PG Era" Isn't The Problem

7. No Long-Term Booking

Dolph Ziggler That's not entirely fair. For the past two years, they've had one match set in stone for Wrestlemania and booked around it even though it was blatantly obvious that no one cared about it, and that match was of course Rock v. Cena. But what about everyone else on the card? Look at the worst offender as of late, namely the Big Show. They spent three months building up a storyline where he was broke and indebted to HHH because his house was in foreclosure, and then one day he just stops caring and they drop that aspect entirely, and then Show drops his lawsuit for no reason in exchange for a title shot, loses the title shot, and that's the end of the story. Am I really supposed to believe that as a fan I was expected to get invested in a story about Big Show losing everything and trading in his one shot at redemption for a title shot he loses in a sh*tty finish? No, because obviously they spent weeks patting themselves on the back for the awesome soap opera nonsense they had crafted, and then when the time came for the payoff they had nothing to actually end the story with, and this sort of thing happens ALL THE TIME. What was even the point of the Daniel Bryan storyline? He kind of wins the title and then has it taken away, and then they vacate the title for a few weeks, and then Randy Orton gets it back again and Bryan goes off to fight the Wyatts. Wow, how COMPELLING. They're really telling stories that speak to the cultural zeitgeist here, aren't they? Or hey, how about Dolph Ziggler? He's in that feud with John Cena that gets dropped after a month, and then starts a storyline where he's going to split with Big E Langston and that gets dropped after a month, and then he cashes in his briefcase to massive babyface reaction before dropping the title right back to Alberto Del Rio without a single title defense, and he's been floating around the midcard ever since with no revenge on AJ Lee for dumping him or on Del Rio for concussing him and costing him his title that he loved so much. Not even getting into the political reasons behind why that was all happening, that's a terrible storyline! It's not even a storyline, it's like Alanis's "Ironic" come to life. But at least he's not Zack Ryder. Which reminds me...
