WWE: 10 Reasons Tag Team Wrestling Just Got Great Again

2. The Performers Take It Seriously

The tag division is no longer the dumping ground for under-utilised talent. If you perform well, get over with the crowds, and take the time in the division seriously you can individually go on to great things. Now you may say that this undermines the tag division, but hear me out. Take Edge and Christian as examples. Edge got well known from his time in the Brood, before becoming the Rated R Superstar and main evening Pay-Per-Views. Shawn Michaels was in the Rockers, the Rock with in the Nation of Domination, Batista and Orton were in Evolution, and look at Daniel Bryan/Ryback - both were in Nexus. Performing well or taking your role in a stable or tag team seriously shows you have what it takes to run with a gimmick and situation. It shows you're reliable and can get over with crowds based on your merits as a performer. Putting Cesaro with Swagger was scoffed at by many on the internet, but being part of the Real Americans has given him a catchphrase and got him over with casual fans when he was directionless. After the Real Americans break up, and they have the inevitable Swagger vs Cesaro feud, Cesaro will be main eventing. He would still be languishing in the midcard jobbing to Brodus Clay if he hadn't have been put in the stable and had Zeb as a mouthpiece. Another huge boost to the division (or the Shield specifically) was the Undertaker wrestling them on free TV for the first time in years, as seen in the first bulletpoint - "Match Length". That is perhaps the most poignant indication of just how seriously the division is being taken by performers, and also by management. Undertaker giving a relatively new tag team and stable that rub is a massive sign of respect for the division.
