WWE: 10 Reasons Tag Team Wrestling Just Got Great Again

1. Crazy Spots!

For some reason, tag wrestling has been the home for insane spots and jumps involving ladders, cages, tables, chairs... you name it. Edge and Christian against the Hardys in Ladder Matches and the Dudleys 3Ding and power bombing people through tables brought a wildness and hardcore vibe to the WWE. Fast forward to the present, and you have spots like this resurgent. The first Shield match at TLC had some incredible spots - Rollins falling through tables, Kane getting the Blackout onto a chair, Ryback getting speared by Reigns through a barricade... it was a thing of beauty which meshed storytelling, intensity, and crazy spots together into one. "This is awesome" chants rang through the arena, and on this occasion the crowd was right... that match was freaking awesome and the spots just wouldn't have happened in the singles division (at least not at the same frenetic pace it did in this 3 on 3 massacre). Just last week Cody Rhodes executed a moonsault off the top of the cage on RAW. Nobody was expecting to see that and it's spots like this that really add to the tag division nowadays. That was on free TV and lit up an otherwise lacklustre show. Just to caveat - spots are not the be-all and end-all. You can't just start power bombing people through tables and diving off ladders to make the tag division interesting. What extreme spots can do though is really liven up a match. When you add too much salt, you completely ruin your food. Add a little bit of seasoning and you can turn a dish into something fantastic. The same is true of high risk spots in matches. If it isn't expected, and adds that little bit extra that makes the match memorable, then it can be a fantastic addition to a wrestling match. For some reason, these spots are often pulled off best in the frenetic and high energy environment of the tag match. And have the viewers been in for a treat over the past year when it comes to tag team high risk spots! For now, I'll leave you with Seth Rollins smashing through tables off an obscenely large ladder. What do you think of the current state of the tag division? What do you think it needs to go to that extra level? Comment below!
