WWE: 10 Reasons WCW Should Return In 2014

6. Reintroduce The Cruiserweight Division, War Games, Starrcade And Other WCW Selling Points

rey-mysterio WCW was a mess by the end of its run. It had got lost in creative and financial folly. Money was being spent like there was no tomorrow and minor celebrities were coming in and winning titles. Still, WCW's once creative visionary Eric Bischoff maintains that the company would have came through its woes, and says that they went out of business because of the Time Warner / AOL merger which deemed wrestling too low class for a television deal. Despite all of the horrible angles often cited by WCW critics, there was in fact many excellent aspects of their wrestling product. Take for example their Cruiserweight division and use of foreign talents. Unlike WWE, WCW was happy to do deals to bring in Mexican and Japanese talents on short term deals. Japanese legends like Jushin Liger got to feature in WCW and show their skills in North America. It wouldn't be too bad an idea for WWE to reintroduce WCW and also use foreign talent in this same way. WWE did of course try to get the Cruiserweight Division going after buying WCW. It worked for a while, there were several classic WWE Cruiserweight matches in which the likes of Rey Mysterio, Chavo Guerrero and Shane Helms stole the show. It was down to WWE that the division ultimately failed, they booked too many terrible angles which included the midget wrestler Hornswoggle winning the title. The reintroduction of WCW and its cruiserweight wrestling would be a great boost to WWE's product, and a key selling point to make Friday Night a must watch broadcast. The cCuiserweights are defined by the fast paced and athletic nature of their matches, a style which is more popular than ever with today's fans. WWE could also bring back other features of WCW, for example the match types. The 'War Games' match was a popular gimmick which saw Two rings put together and a cell put over them. Teams of wrestlers would then battle it out. It was like a less complex Elimination Chamber, and the simplicity worked beautifully. It is a ready made selling point for WWE to exploit. They could go as far to bring back classic WCW events such as Starrcade, which would carry way more prestige than ppv names like 'Battleground' or 'Payback'.
