9. The Rock...
I have talked about a lot of the iconic wrestlers of the Attitude era but I have only really mentioned The Rock, and for good reason; he gets his own reason! Cue fireworks! OK I know a lot of people will argue that he probably wasn't the best wrestler of the Attitude era, or the most iconic in the eyes of the fans (Steve Austin won Superstar of the Decade a few years back). However as a whole if you ask anyone who they think is the most famous wrestler from the 90's? They will most likely say The Rock. In the same way that Hulk Hogan is the name of 80's wrestling, was he the best? Probably not, but he is the most renowned. But why is The Rock so memorable to people? Well his promos were very entertaining, from thinking of a very tongue twistingly complicated way of calling Stephanie McMahon (the bosses daughter no less) a less than savoury character (not sure I can use the actual terminology here!) to simply blasting out his iconic "If you SMEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLL....." he held the crowd in the palm of his hands with his witty promos. In the ring he may not have been the best, but I would seriously say the same of Steve Austin, he was not the best wrestler in the ring. So what they couldn't pull off dragorana's and rope dives; they could brawls, utilize weapons and surroundings and give the crowd what they wanted, and that was a compelling match. The Rock, however, made the transition into films seamlessly, and whilst he may not have been in many films that would be considered classics, he has made a name for himself doing it thanks to how well he comes across in front of a crowd or in front of a mic, and the only way he could do that is by crowd and peer approval.
