WWE: 10 Superstar Gimmicks That Are Total Rip Offs

9. The Straight Edge Society

Rtc Straight Edge

Original Gimmick: Right to Censor Within the year 2000 the WWE was running riot, we witnessed a Hardcore title match taking place in a kids ball pool and Mae Young flashed her double lattes to the world. There was an obvious heel gimmick to surface amongst the mayhem, a person/ group looking to tame life within the company; step forward Steven Richards. Right to Censor€™s feud were often based around them trying to ban something inappropriate on the show such as The Godfather€™s hoe train and Rikishi€™s ass. He was after all a €˜thong wearing fatty€™ if you agree with The Rock. It is no secret that CM Punk keeps a straight edge lifestyle and the WWE played that into a storyline when he feuded against notorious drug abuser Jeff Hardy; the rivalry was a great success and the company therefore decided there was more life in the gimmick. CM Punk became a preacher, very much like Richard€™s character in Right to Censor; only Punk wanted to save the general public from alcohol and drug abuse not Rikishi€™s Titanic tushy. He would also frequently complain about the inappropriate behaviour of other wrestlers and collected a group of followers that agreed with his idea of improving the conduct of those associated with the WWE, just as Steven Richards did. Whilst CM Punk had some high profile feud during his time as the leader of The Straight Edge Society, such as matches against Rey Mysterio and The Big Show, Right to Censor were the more successful stable. Both the Tag Team belts and the Women€™s Title were within the camp at one point.
