10. Curtis Axel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYZF0zMG4pg The Problem: This isn't going to be a page of me slamming on Curtis Axel. I think his weaknesses and strengths have been debated enough, and there's no need for me to repeat them. Curtis Axel has obviously struggled since he came in, not in terms of his natural in-ring ability, but in terms of making an impact with the crowds, both television and live. I feel that the nature of his entrance has something to do with that. I'm not a fool, I know what they are trying to do with the remix of Mr. Perfects theme. It's not an altogether bad plan if, and this is a big if, Axel was an incarnation of Curt Hennig, and not just his son. The problem is he's not a new Mr. Perfect, in terms of both his natural charisma and the character they're trying to portray him as. Axel the character in WWE is a technical wrestler with no time for nonsense. He seems to be a get down to business and fight type of guy, no nonsense no fuss. That's a perfectly good gimmick if they can make it stick, but I don't feel that this music is helping him. The Solution: This is difficult for Axel. It depends on what their long-term plans are for him, but if he's going to be maintaining this idea of a no nonsense fighter who just wants to get in the ring and win then there are options. Firstly the start of his theme has a large drum beat, one that reminds me of gladiatorial battles in ancient Rome. I think this could be some clever imagery to invoke. Axel could be a modern day gladiator, not interested in the fan reaction just coming out to fight and to win. I don't mean he suddenly wears leather sandals and a toga, just use some of the sounds associated with ancient Rome, fanfares, bugle calls and war drums and you might be able to associate in the minds of the audience the idea that this man is a here just to fight. This simple could take some of the pressure off Axel to be an entertainer, rather than a wrestler.
