5. Sheamus
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQNKbSBY4Ww The Problem: Firstly lets deal with the lyrics, "It's a shame for they lost their head" is a strange lyrics to begin with. I guess maybe they lost their head because Sheamus knocked it off their shoulders with a Brogue Kick. Even if it made sense it's real problem is that it sounds a lot like the singer is saying "It's a shame for their lobster head". Now that might be a nice nickname for Sheamus, with his shock of red hair, but I'm not sure that's the idea they are going for. Secondly the most recognisable moment of Sheamus' music is perhaps when the performer shouts "Too many lies, too many lies." We all hate a liar, so why is this lyric a problem? Well perhaps as it sounds a lot like he's shouting "Too many limes, too many limes." This is has become such a common joke that there are even T-shirts being sold with this slogan on them. When one of your big name performers music is reminding people of a man who eats too much citrus fruit you have a problem. Secondly the fact that he's been using the same tune for his entire WWE run is very strange. Very few wrestlers have had such iconic music that it has never needed freshening up, and for me Sheamus needs freshening up both in terms of his music and the tone of his in-ring persona. Sheamus has made being Irish as the core of his character, and that's inevitable due to his pronounced accent and his physical appearance, so this needs to be reflected in his music. The Solution: WWE needs to look at Sheamus not as a reinvention, but more of a reinvigoration. Some small tweaks to his character could bring some real life to Sheamus. Changing his music from this slightly mournful tune to a song with a bit more beat and aggression could really help. Bands like the Pogues or Neck (have a listen to their version of "McAlpine's Fusiliers") are unmistakably Celtic. Music of that nature could really give Sheamus the air of an Irish fighter, who loves to have a good time and loves to fight. The mix of punk and traditional Irish drinking songs could work perfectly, especially if Sheamus is going to be wrestling as a face.
