WWE: 10 Superstars Who Could Never Let Wrestling Go
10. Ric Flair
"Diamonds are forever and so is Slick Ric!" This isn't just a line that Ric used in a promo - it's the mantra he lives by. Since he got into the business he has been a star - no, a superstar! He was, as he liked to remind us, 'The man'. He made millions of dollars as the main man of the NWA/WCW, and, eventually, the WWE. But he also lived outside his means. He spent more than he was making for a long time, just to keep up the nature boy persona. If the WWE were to allow it, he would wrestle in the ring now (and probably bleed all over the place), even at he age of 64. He still has name value, as we saw recently with his association/motivational talks with the San Francisco 49ers. But he has nearly burnt every bridge possible with WWE, although his friendship with HHH will keep him there in some way, shape or form. He might well miss the buzz of the crowd, he may miss the fun on the road with the boys and he may miss being seen as 'The man'. But, unfortunately, he needs the money to pay ex-wives etc. It's sad to say that he needs wrestling in2014 more than wrestling needs him. He never could quite make the step out from being the nature boy to being plain Ric Flair.
I am a teacher, but also write about all things wrestling. I have been writing/interviewing wrestling personalities for over 7 years for both the Wrestling Observer site, as well as The History Of WWE site.
