7. Bobby Lashley

In terms of guys that WWE had high hopes for in the 2000s, Lashley is one of those guys. He started on WWE TV at age 29 in 2005 and then he was out of WWE by 2008. He later moved onto TNA for a short run that wasn't really successful. His accomplishments in WWE included 2 ECW Championship wins and 1 reign as the US Champion as well. It's likely that WWE expected more from him, but he was never able to become "the guy" like they had hoped. Lashley's greatest accomplishment was his involvement in the Battle of the Billionaires at WrestleMania 23 that saw Vince McMahon and Donald Trump put their hair on the line. Lashley won the match for Trump by defeating Umaga, which garnered a lot of media attention. It's actually the WrestleMania that has the most PPV buys ever with that match getting a lot of credit. Lashley would continue feuding with the McMahons after that, so you know the company had high hopes for him. Now that he's 37 years old it's unlikely that WWE would have in interest in bringing Lashley back. While they definitely saw something when they first brought him up, it obviously didn't work out for him since he had a relatively short WWE career. Even though he does wrestle the odd match occasionally, he's mostly an MMA fighter at this point and has moved on from the wrestling business.
