WWE: 10 Superstars You Won't Believe Vince McMahon Gave Contracts To

9. Kenzo Suzuki

Amazingly, Kenzo Suzuki's career trajectory has closely paralleled The Great Khali's. Suzuki, though, had a much shorter career in the big leagues. Both were foreign wrestlers brought in to portray monster heels. Both were terrible workers, and both devolved into goofy comedy characters when no one took them seriously. At least Khali got to hold the world title, but Suzuki wasn't subjected to a never ending kiss-cam segment and stuck with Hornswoggle by his side. That probably worked out about even. Suzuki joined the WWE in 2004 where he was originally cast as Hirohito. Thankfully, someone within WWE realized that naming a wrestler after the Japanese emperor during World War 2 was a terrible idea. Plans for him to feud with then WWE champion Chris Benoit were also dropped. Instead of the world title spotlight, Suzuki debuted to much smaller fanfare on SmackDown. He was given Billy Gunn as his first opponent. Not exactly a fair trade. It was the right call, though, as Suzuki clearly wasn't ready (and never would be ready) for main-event matches. There's the old joke that Ric Flair in his prime could carry a broom to a good match. It's doubtful he could do the same for Suzuki, as he had less talent than the average broom. You can imagine Vince McMahon wanting to hire a Japanese wrestler to appeal to an Asian audience, but did he have to pick the absolute worst one in the entire country? After all, he didn't do very much with Tajiri and Ultimo Dragon, two wrestlers who possessed actual talent.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
