WWE: 10 Talking Points About John Cena’s Eventual Heel Turn

8. No One Can Take Cena's Spot At The Top

john cena wwe champion One of the biggest arguments against a John Cena heel turn is the fact that there is simply no one that can take his place at the top. The most compelling evidence supporting this view is from 2011, during CM Punk's meteoric rise in the company. Armed with only a microphone and a strong opinion, CM Punk sat cross-legged on the Monday Night Raw stage and changed everything. His views on the state of WWE and the injustices that he saw from top to bottom resonated with fans and in the weeks that followed, Punk caught fire like no one dreamed possible. He won the WWE Championship and became a huge focus for the company, who capitalized on it by sending Punk to do various forms of media including radio, TV and public appearances. Punk was red hot and the debate was raging that perhaps he was the new face of WWE. But it never happened. WWE had a prime opportunity to make the switch, putting Punk at the top while turning Cena heel and they did not do it. Whether the reason for that is the company's belief in John or perhaps their lack of faith in Punk, is still being debated. However, what's not debated is the fact that the most opportune moment in WWE history to make Cena walk on the dark side came and they decided to say no. And if the timing was not right for WWE creative then, why would it be any different now? If Cena turned heel right now, who could match him on the other side? Who not only has the force of personality to reel fans in but also the drawing power to make them want to buy a ticket? Until that question is definitively answered, Cena is not changing a thing.
