WWE: 10 Things That Would Have Happened If Stone Cold Steve Austin Never Retired

1. He Would Have Wrestled CM Punk

Cm Punk Best As The Miz would say, "Really?" This point is stretching our operating assumption quite far €“ that is, Austin wrestling more than a few years without a debilitating injury. While CM Punk really hit the WWE scene five years after Austin's retirement, I'd say that Punk wasn't ripe for a feud with Austin for a few more years thereafter. That puts us into "coming out of retirement" territory, the subject of which has been broached with Austin, especially when both he and Punk have made comments in the media about a match together. What a tease! And yet... would we want to see it? As someone who idolized Ricky Steamboat, I felt a very bittersweet sensation upon seeing him re-surface as a senior at WrestleMania 25 against Chris Jericho. Relatively speaking, he still had it €“ which was much more than we could say for Snuka and Piper in the same match. Austin wouldn't come back unless he could hold his own, Steamboat-style, but with each day that passes, that possibility dwindles further. I'm not sure that I'd even want to see him operating Steamboat style. Stay gold, Stone Cold, stay gold. The Steve Austin mystique lives on. If he had never retired, we wouldn't pounce on comeback rumors with such crazed anticipation. Would he have wrestled CM Punk? In a perfect world, OH HELL YEAH. But I hope we will need to be okay with a retired Steve Austin, because it's much more fun to wonder what would have happened.
