WWE: 10 Things I Learned Training To Be A Pro Wrestler With Lance Storm

7. Pacing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqJ-EKScpEA It's a cliché, but a wrestling match €“ even a short one €“ is a marathon, not a sprint. Just like a big part of ring psychology is knowing your own limitations, the same applies to not wearing yourself out in a match. Storm would give us pointers on how to improve our conditioning, if need be, but he would also tell us how to work with what we have. Nobody wants to get blown up during a match €“ that's a sure way for it to fall apart €“ but there are workarounds. For instance, working as a heel is typically easier for non-Shelton Benjamin-types such as myself. Not only does the heel typically dictate the pace of the match, but the times when the heel is in charge €“ using most of his energy €“ are generally the slowest parts of the bout. Tips like that help Storm show all of his students that working smarter equals working better.
