WWE: 10 Things I Learned Training To Be A Pro Wrestler With Lance Storm

4. Cutting A Promo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofRfpWzdTvM Lance Storm, especially during his WCW run, was renowned for his speaking ability as well as his wrestling ability €“ his tongue-in-cheek catchphrase, "If I can be serious for a minute..." is still a reminder of the success he achieved in the organization. Though never a flashy promo like The Rock or Ric Flair, Storm knows what makes a strong interview and imparts the wisdom onto his students by assigning promos, taping them, playing them back, and dissecting them. Just like a match, it's all about telling a story €“ a promo doesn't have to be smooth or elegant to be great (see Dusty Rhodes's classic "Hard Times" speech), but it needs to get a point across in a memorable manner. Of course, practice always make perfect, but a strong fundamental background is always the perfect starting point.
