Claudio made his name in Ring of honor, the premier indie group who built their brand around technical wrestling. Seen as the spiritual successor to ECW, ROH has been the must watch indie league of the last decade, regularly putting on match of the year contenders. It was also the same promotion that CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins came from. In some ways, things have came full circle for Cesaro, he started out in ROH as a Gabe Sapolsky guy (Gabe is ROH founder and Paul Heyman's protege) and now Cesaro finds himself in WWE as a 'Paul Heyman Guy'. Castagnoli was one of ROH's standout performers, a hard hitting worker who was at home in the athletic environment. Along with Chris Hero, he won the ROH tag team championship on two occasions. There was also a memorable feud with ROH pure champion Nigel McGuinness, the talented worker who went on to wrestle as Desmond Wolfe in TNA before an early retirement due to hepatitis. As the breeding ground for success, Cesaro came from the best place, Ring of Honor was a hugely important part of his career. The work of Claudio Castagnoli in ROH will never be forgotten.
