WWE: 10 Times The Fans Completely Rejected What They Were Seeing

1. Bill Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 20 (2004)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp2ulQq09Fc "Austin just stunned Lesnar right out of a WWE ring!" - Jim Ross This is one of the most memorable matches in WWE history for all of the wrong reasons. Then again, those same reasons made it unforgettable too. Brock Lesnar was heavily pushed for two years prior to this match. Goldberg was only in WWE for one year. Prior to the match, the news broke that Lesnar was quitting WWE following the match and that Goldberg's one year deal was up too. It was the last match for both guys. Even the announcers Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler had to address the chants because they were so loud. There were "you sold out" chants and the "na na na hey hey goodbye" song by the loud crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York City. They made sure their voices were heard. I'm not sure how Lesnar "sold out" when he was leaving a job as a millionaire in WWE to go try out for the NFL, which wasn't a successful move for him. Still, the fans chanted it anyway. The match wasn't very good. It was slow and plodding. Not a whole lot happened in it for a long time. When the action finally picked up, the fans didn't really care about that either. Where WWE deserves credit is they knew the fans may turn on the match, so they put Steve Austin in there as the referee (Austin retired one year earlier) and at least he was able to make the crowd happy when he gave the Stone Cold Stunner to each guy after the match. They especially liked it when he hit that Stunner on Lesnar. Whenever fans think about Goldberg vs. Lesnar they don't really think of the bad match they had. They think of the crowd, who were really the stars of that show.
