WWE: 10 Times When WrestleMania Matches Actually Lived Up To The Hype

1. The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels - WrestleMania 25

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-4GVWOC5sM It wasn't their first match and it wasn't their last, but their showdown in 2009 was their first singles match since 1998. The brand extension kept them apart for several years since Michaels was a Raw performer while Undertaker was a Smackdown exclusive talent. By the time they got together in 2009 it was a fresh match again. What was also great is that they teased this match in the 2007 Royal Rumble when Undertaker won the match after a memorable final two duel with Michaels. The match was built up perfectly with Michaels talking about how he was at a good place in his life, but he wanted one more thing. He called himself Mr. WrestleMania because of all the great matches he had at the biggest show of the year. It wasn't about his win/loss record. It was about being the best. He wanted to beat The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak while Undertaker wanted to prove that he could beat the best in the business. An argument could be made that the hype for the WrestleMania 26 match they had was even better since it was the last match of Shawn's career. It also featured that incredible video package (to the tune of "Running Up That Hill" by Placebo) that summarized everything wonderfully. However, this match was the first one and it set the standard enormously high. Undertaker and Shawn Michaels delivered a classic at WrestleMania 25 that nobody will ever forget. Greatest match ever? I think so. No match lived up to the hype better than this one.
